Jolie Voight (born on the 4th of June 1975 in Los Angeles, California), is an
American actor, director, and producer who is well-known for her sex appeal as
and her charitable work. Jolie was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting
performance as a psychiatrist in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of
actor Jon Voight, spent much of her growing up in New York before relocating to
Los Angeles at age 11. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute
for two years. She later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. She then
studied acting at New York University. She also performed in theater
productions and modelled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) that
Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996, divorced in
1999). It wasn't well-loved as were a number of other films. However, in 1997,
Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of Alabama's
segregationist governor the television film George Wallace, and she later won a
Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. Jolie played a supermodel who struggles
with drug addiction in the HBO film Gia in 1999. This performance earned her
numerous honours including a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award.
In 1999, she appeared in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob
Thornton, and the following year she married Thornton (divorced 2003).After the
Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie starred in a series of
action-oriented films. She played the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas
Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later changed her accent to the
British accent and learned combat sports and street fighting for the main roles
in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of
Life (2003). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's
Alexander (2004) and was in the film with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky
Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City).
Both films were unsuccessful at the box office, however Jolie made a splash in
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She played a housewife pretending to be an
assassin. While working on the film she became acquainted with Brad Pitt who
became her partner.
